Hello everybody,

A free Demo of the hypertext "The Devil's Dictionary" (Condensed Version),
produced by OmniMedia, is available for download on the Internet, It is
written in Windows 3.1 Help format.

This document should be viewable by Windows 3.1, Windows NT, and OS/2 2.x
(and possibly other operating systems with the appropriate special software).

Here's the description from the accompanying text file:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the Demo for the latest electronic book published by OmniMedia, "The
Devil's Dictionary," (Condensed Version) by Ambrose Bierce. It is in Windows
3.1 Help format, so it can be viewed under Windows 3.1, OS/2 2.x, Windows NT,
Excel for the Macintosh, and possibly some other operating systems that have
software to read Windows Help files. "The Devil's Dictionary" is considered
Bierce's most famous work, and is exceptionally entertaining and humorous --
it is best described as the "Cynic's Bible" par excellence. The full
commercial version (containing 623 total definitions, the Demo has 92) is
quite attractively priced and can be purchased from OmniMedia. This Demo is
freeware and can be distributed far and wide; please upload it to your
favorite BBS sites and distribute it among all your friends -- everyone will
be glad you did! It is appropriate for all ages.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can freely download the Demo from anonymous ftp site:

ftp.netcom.com /pub/noring/books/devdict.zip

Be SURE to type 'binary' before issuing the 'get' command!

I encourage you to redistribute this document far and wide - upload it to your
favorite BBS and distribute copies to your friends and acquaintances. Please
upload only the original zip file.

I'm sure you will enjoy the Demo of "The Devil's Dictionary" (Condensed
Version).

OmniMedia

(p.s., if you don't have anonymous ftp access, I will e-mail a uuencoded
version of the zip file. Of course, you will need to be able to uudecode it,
which I can't help you with. And I'm not sure on this, but the file
devdict.zip MIGHT be accessible from Netcom via mail server -- I just don't
know how to do it, if possible at all -- any help here from my fellow
Netcom'ers?)
