California State University San Bernardino Department of Computer Science and Engineering Special Interdisciplinary Master of Arts Thesis/Project Defense Date November 14, 2008 Time 2-4pm Location JB389/391 Title PySafe: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Interface Design Candidate Matthew Richardson Advisor Dr. Richard Botting Committee Members Professor Kurt Collins Dr. David Turner Abstract Interface design is a field that draws from many disciplines. Computer science, cognitive psychology, graphic design, and more recently, cultural studies and semiotics have made contributions. This project examines the history, current state, and future directions of interface design and applies the collected knowledge to the design of a small application: PySafe. PySafe keeps track of remote computers across the Internet, allowing an administrator to quickly see when a client last checked in and displaying an alert when a time interval has been exceeded. The application is designed for future growth and the addition of locale specific customizations.
