Grid technology is in an active research phase and projected to be used by future E-science applications which generate large amounts of data. In this talk, I will cover three results from my thesis research, each of which aims at improving grid utilization. The first result is on scheduling the optical network which connects the various grid components. The second result investigates and compares on-demand and advance resource reservation models for the grid. The third result is on resource co-allocation in the grid.
